I think some doctors argue that they’re spending more time communicating with patients via email, and they should be compensated for that time.
I can see both sides of it. On one hand, doctors are busy and don’t want to be inundated with emails. On the other hand, it seems unfair to charge patients for something that was previously included in the cost of the appointment.
That’s a bit ridiculous, though. Patients already pay for their appointments, and the occasional email shouldn’t require extra billing.
Some doctors are using it as a way to discourage patients from emailing them for minor issues.
